Second-Generation Ducati DesertX Unveiled With New V2 Engine

Ducati has just revealed the all-new DesertX. This is not just a simple update but a ground-up redesign of the popular adventure bike. It gets a new engine, chassis, and a host of updates aimed at serious off-road performance.
A Completely New Motorcycle
The second-generation DesertX has been redesigned from scratch. Ducati says it's an improvement in every way, based on feedback from years of development and competition on challenging terrain. The goal was to boost off-road capability without sacrificing on-road manners.
Engine Powers of The New DesertX
The heart is an all-new 890cc V2 engine. It replaces the old 937cc Testastretta unit. This new motor is the lightest twin-cylinder engine Ducati has ever made. It features Intake Variable Timing for strong power across the rev range.
How Much Power Does It Make?
The engine produces 108.8 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. A key feature is the torque curve. A full 70 percent of the maximum torque is available at just 3,000 rpm. This ensures quick response and strong acceleration, especially out of corners.
What's New With The Chassis?
The DesertX gets a new monocoque frame. It uses the engine as a structural element for compactness and rigidity. The rear trellis frame is designed for easy access to engine components, simplifying maintenance. A new, stronger aluminium swingarm is built specifically for tough terrain.
How Has The Suspension And Braking Changed?
It gets a new 46mm fully adjustable Kayaba fork. The rear suspension now features a progressive linkage for better comfort and off-road behavior. Braking is handled by Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers with new 305mm discs, offering better modulation off-road while maintaining road-ready power.
What About The Ergonomics?
The rider triangle has been revised. Footpegs are moved back, while the seat and handlebars are positioned forward. This improves control when standing on the pegs off-road. The new 18-litre fuel tank is slimmer and positioned lower to reduce top-heaviness.
What Electronics Does Ducati DesertX Feature?
The bike has a latest-generation 6-axis IMU. It powers cornering ABS, traction control, and wheelie control. There are six riding modes, including two dedicated off-road settings: Enduro and Rally. The ABS can be fully disabled for serious off-road use.
Does Ducati DesertX Look Different?
The design is an evolution, not a revolution. It retains the core DesertX DNA. The front end is 20mm lower for a more dynamic look. The tail is minimalistic to easily fit accessories. Full LED lighting and a new 5-inch TFT display complete the package.
Ducati DesertX Launch In India
The new Ducati DesertX is expected to launch in India by the end of 2026. The official pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
A Serious Off-Road Contender
This new DesertX is a major step forward. With its purpose-built engine, new chassis, and advanced electronics, it is designed to take on the toughest terrain while remaining accessible to riders of all skill levels.
